Laraine Newman, original member of the cast of Saturday Night Live,
founding member of The Groundlings, accomplished voice actor and writer
takes us through how she transitioned from on camera work to voice
acting.
She shares her first experience working with animation
greats like Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche and fellow Groundling
member, Tress McNeille.
She credits studying with Charlie Adler,
Chris Zimmerman and listening to radio plays with helping her build her
voice acting chops and how her sketch comedy background has helped her
voice over career. Laraine explains why still takes classes and how she
approaches bringing new characters to life.
We find out where she
goes and what she does to keep up with the trends in comedy like
serving on the Board of The San Francisco Sketch Fest. Part 1 closes

shares a viewer email from Sean in Japan and the Tip of the Week has

This week’s guest is Randy Thomas, voice of
Entertainment Tonight, live announcer for the Oscars, The Tony’s and
much more telling how it all started for her in voice over. Randy shares
how her life changed when she became the first woman in history to
announce the Oscars in 1993. She describes what the experience was like
the first time and gives insights on what it takes to live announce
awards shows.
Stacey lists the many “firsts” Randy has had in her
voice over career and expresses her gratitude to Randy through a
personal experience she had at the 2012 Don LaFontaine Voice Over Lab
Fundraiser Poker Tournament. Randy gives her opinion on women in movie
trailers and answers the question of how she makes her successful career
work living in Florida.
She shares a few photos of her home
studio, discusses her book VOICE FOR HIRE, which she co-wrote with Peter
Rofe, and tells viewers how they can get a signed copy. Randy shares
her favorite memory of Don LaFontaine and how meeting him gave her
inspiration for what she wanted to do with her voice over career.

LaFontaine Voice Over Lab. Stew believes his experience as a musician is
a definite asset to working in promos and a vintage clip of Stew
playing guitar at The Troubadour is resurrected.

talks about how he got his start in voice over. As the Imaging Director
for the iconic LA rock station KLOS, Stew explains some of the pros and
cons of doing radio and voice over as well as current trends in radio
promos.
Stacey puts Stew on the spot to explain some things she
read about him and when Chuck joins in too, things get pretty hilarious.
Stew talks about some of the career accomplishments he’s most proud of
and how grateful he is to be a part of the voice over business.
We
hear about his current projects plus Stew reveals what aspects of voice
over he likes doing most. He remembers what being asked to participate
