Stellar advice and tips about what it takes to make it in the VO biz.
Stacey
reads another great viewer email from Charlene in Seattle and Chuck
reminds viewers if they like the show they can support it through the
website’s SUPPORT page. Time to chat with the Emmy and Annie award
winning VO superstar, Maurice LaMarche, who engagingly shares how he
sometimes gets a little lazy about his appearance being a voice actor
and the benefits of being the spokesperson for Lexus.
He takes us
through how he made the transition from stand-up comedian to voice
actor and tells a story about his very first gig doing Inspector Gadget
with Don Adams.
Maurice offers advice and specific tips about
what he thinks it takes to make it in the business today, recalling that
it took him a year of auditioning before he booked his first job. He
stresses the importance of the relationship in any script whether it’s
for Lexus commercials or in animation like working with Rob Paulsen on
Pinky and the Brain.
He addresses the question of whether or not
he still auditions everyday and talks about his process of creating
characters. He shares how he records his multiple characters in Futurama
with fellow cast members Billy West, Katey Segal, Phil LaMarr, Lauren
Tom and John DiMaggio.
The episode closes with Maurice doing some
of his first, stellar impersonations of entertainment icons Peter Falk
and Tony Curtis and how the years he spent studying and perfecting his
Orson Welles impersonation changed the course of his career.
