Stacey
reads another great viewer email from Charlene in Seattle and Chuck

website’s SUPPORT page. Time to chat with the Emmy and Annie award
winning VO superstar, Maurice LaMarche, who engagingly shares how he
sometimes gets a little lazy about his appearance being a voice actor
and the benefits of being the spokesperson for Lexus.
He takes us
through how he made the transition from stand-up comedian to voice
actor and tells a story about his very first gig doing Inspector Gadget
with Don Adams.
Maurice offers advice and specific tips about
what he thinks it takes to make it in the business today, recalling that
it took him a year of auditioning before he booked his first job. He
stresses the importance of the relationship in any script whether it’s
for Lexus commercials or in animation like working with Rob Paulsen on
Pinky and the Brain.
He addresses the question of whether or not
he still auditions everyday and talks about his process of creating
characters. He shares how he records his multiple characters in Futurama
with fellow cast members Billy West, Katey Segal, Phil LaMarr, Lauren
Tom and John DiMaggio.
The episode closes with Maurice doing some
of his first, stellar impersonations of entertainment icons Peter Falk
and Tony Curtis and how the years he spent studying and perfecting his
Orson Welles impersonation changed the course of his career.

acting coaching and what motivated her to start working with students,
one-on-one and in a group setting. Viewers get an amazing demonstration
of how Lori brings a character to life and she takes us through several
ways to create characters using real life examples.
She reflects
on the actions or patterns of behavior that have helped to keep her
going in her career and talks about doing Pixar movies like Monsters
University, Wall-E and Toy Story 3, with voice acting veterans Jess
Harnell, Laraine Newman, Mona Marshall and Danny Mann. Lori tells the
story about meeting Seth MacFarlane and landing the role of Diane the

Chuck’s
Tip of the Week provides an easy way to get rid of clicks in your audio
tracks. Guest Lori Alan, voice of Pearl the Whale on Spongebob
Squarepants and Momma on Henry Hugglemonster, takes us back to how she
got started as a performer and voice actor. She explains how taking a
class with Charlie Adler and Chris Zimmerman changed her life and lead
to booking her first animated series, Swat Cats, with veteran voice
actors Tress McNeille and Frank Welker.
We discuss some of Lori’s
current projects like the new Disney series Henry Hugglemonster and the
process she went through to create her character in the show, Momma.
Lori offers some insights on the ways she’s gotten through the rocky
times in her career and credits taking some kind of class as the way she
keeps her instrument in good shape, as well as a positive attitude.
She
brings some of her favorite characters to life like Pearl, Diane, Momma
and The Boss and explains how using some of her real life experiences
helped her book the Valspar TV campaign. By taking the advice of mentor
Charlie Adler and some of her own wisdom, Lori talks about the skill

differences and some of the challenges of working in the anime genre

This week’s guest is Randy Thomas, voice of
Entertainment Tonight, live announcer for the Oscars, The Tony’s and
much more telling how it all started for her in voice over. Randy shares
how her life changed when she became the first woman in history to
announce the Oscars in 1993. She describes what the experience was like
the first time and gives insights on what it takes to live announce
awards shows.
Stacey lists the many “firsts” Randy has had in her
voice over career and expresses her gratitude to Randy through a
personal experience she had at the 2012 Don LaFontaine Voice Over Lab
Fundraiser Poker Tournament. Randy gives her opinion on women in movie
trailers and answers the question of how she makes her successful career
work living in Florida.
She shares a few photos of her home
