Chuck & Stacey sit down with the Peabody and Emmy award winning creator, writer and producer of the Disney Jr. shows Doc McStuffins and Vampirina, Chris Nee. Chris explains the unique place where the idea for Doc McStuffins came to her and why she is so proud of what the show has been able to accomplish. She talks about her incredible production team that includes casting director, Maria Estrada and a longtime partnership with Brown Bag Studios in Dublin, Ireland. With Doc McStuffins being one of the longest running shows in Disney TV animation history, Chris reflects on why she believes the show resonates with kids and adults. She shares her goals and challenges as a writer and show creator to continually nurture the hope and innocence of childhood through the characters and episodes. Chris describes the process of writing and casting the pilot episode of Doc McStuffins and getting to work with voice over acting icons like Rob Paulsen, Loretta DeVine, Lara Jill Miller, Robbie Rist, Jess Harnell and Laraine Newman. Chris talks about paying careful attention to the kinds of role models she’s creating in her shows and being mindful of diversity in all areas of the production. She remembers some career experiences she had early on and what led her to leave a great gig working for Sesame Street International to follow her ultimate dreams as a writer. As a former producer of the first season of Deadliest Catch while writing for children’s television, Chris offers why she loves being a show runner, creator and writer.

Chuck & Stacey continue their interview with the wonderfully kind and knowledgeable Eric Poole, award-winning co-founder and managing partner of Second Sense Creative Production Company and published author. Eric talks about some things talent should do and also avoid in sessions and speaks to the importance of taking classes and learning the craft of voiceover promos. He offers his opinion about creating a voiceover demo that reflects your signature sound and his process when listening to demos and auditions. Eric talks about current trends, style of reads and demographic in demand for men and women in promos. He compliments Stacey on her talent and authenticity and encourages voice talent to be true to who they are in their work. He stresses the need to work with a reputable coach who knows the current market and has the knowledge, temperament and ability to give constructive feedback to their clients. He shares his inspiration for writing his memoir, Where’s My Wand: One Boy’s Magical Triumph Over Alienation and Shag Carpeting published by Penguin Random House, which you can find at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Eric remembers the kind feedback he got about his book from iconic Brady Bunch TV mom, Florence Henderson. Make sure to look out for his second book due out in Spring 2018. Eric describes his casting process that goes through agents as direct bookings or audition submissions and offers great advice to talent when it comes to the pursuit of agent representation. As a loyal supporter of the show, Eric praises Chuck and Stacey for doing VO Buzz Weekly and reminds voice talent to have patience, perseverance and a strong work ethic.
