EPISODE 286 - Chuck and Stacey continue their interview with voice actor and stand up comic, Chris Edgerly of The Simpsons animated series, Passengers, Dragons: Riders of Berk, The Clone Wars, Naruto, Sofia the First, Tom & Jerry and Cid Highwind from Final Fantasy. Chris, shares the story of why he got in trouble while riding a Disney attraction where he voices a character. Chris performs some of his character voices like Gobber and Cid Highwind in Final Fantasy, and he goes on to demonstrate some of his spot on impressions like Liam Neeson, Matthew McConnaughey, Jeff Goldblum, Antonio Banderas, Michael Caine and Peter O’Toole. Chris talks about his attitude towards auditioning and booking the gig and the importance of trusting his instincts and moving on. EPISODE 285 - Chuck and Stacey welcome the totally fun and extremely talented, Chris Edgerly. Chris is a stand-up comedian and versatile voice actor in commercials, promos, animation and more than 100 video game titles like playing Cid Highwind in Final Fantasy. Chris shares how having an extroverted personality as a child made it a no-brainer for him to want to become an actor and performer. He describes what the life of a standup comic on the road is like and the way his comedy skills have helped him transition to working as a voice actor. He offers solid advice to those wanting to work in the voiceover business that includes getting stand-up experience, developing your acting chops and using your fear to motivate you to move forward. Chris talks about his 9th season working on The Simpsons doing a variety of different voices and explains the process of recording the episode from table read to ADR. Chris recalls the times when he and voice actor friend, Nolan North installed crown moulding to “make ends meet” as shares some of his other odd jobs he got fired from including the Whispering Canyon Café at DisneyWorld.

EPISODE 284 - Chuck and Stacey continue talking with their wonderfully talented friend, Matthew Mercer. Matt is a huge anime, animation and video game actor with hundreds of credits to his name like the Dungeons and Dragons Master and creator of Geek & Sundry’s Critical Role. Matt is also the voice of McCree in the Overwatch video game. Matthew explains his personal motto, “to abandon expectations” and how he keeps a healthy perspective about his life and work. He speaks to the times in his career when he was struggling to “make ends meet” and offers sound advice and inspiration to those who want to work in the voiceover industry. Matt talks about some of the people who inspire him like physicist Richard Feynman, and voice acting legends like Mel Blanc, Rob Paulsen and Jim Cummings. He shares the ways that he gives back to voice actors starting out and also charity work he’s involved with for www.826National.org that helps underprivileged kids develop their creative writing and storytelling abilities. Matthew explains the significance of the bracelets he wears which serve as powerful life reminders and he reveals the times when he’s the happiest and some places in the world that he loves to go.

EPISODE 283 - Chuck and Stacey welcome their super talented friend, anime, animation and video game actor, Matthew Mercer. Matt is loved by fans for his work in Thundercats, as the Dungeon Master and creator of the internet sensation Critical Role and as McCree in Blizzard Entertainment video game, Overwatch. Matthew talks about his inspiration for creating the role-playing game, Critical Role from his experiences growing up playing Dungeons & Dragons. He explains the Dungeon Master and expresses positive sentiments about how the current culture embraces and celebrates Dungeons & Dragons. Matthew talks about the audition and callback process for landing the role of McCree in Overwatch, which was a great reminder for him to always trust his instincts. He gives some insights into his approach to auditions and some specific things he does to bring them to life in a complete way. Matthew shares the personal story of how he went from animation and illustration drawing to discovering theatre and on-camera acting that ultimately led him to become a full-time voice actor.

Jeff is the owner of Celebrity Talent Booking and creator of convention favorite event, Twisted Toonz. Jeff speaks to why fan conventions and comic-cons are so popular and shares some of the highlights of his work. He tells the story of how because of his buddies, Chuck Duran and Jess Harnell and their band Rock Sugar, led him to find his dream job working in talent management. Jeff explains in detail his role and duties as a booking manager, what some of the challenges are and why his flair for problem solving and being prepared makes things easy for the talent, the promoters and the fans at conventions. His main goal is to be easy to work with, keep things simple and make everyone happy.

EPISODE 279 - Chuck and Stacey proudly welcome versatile anime, animation and video game actor, Crispin Freeman, to the show. Loved for his role of Winston in Blizzard Entertainment’s hit video game Overwatch, Crispin is also a sought after voiceover coach, mythology scholar and creator of the Voice Acting Mastery podcast. Crispin and Chuck reminisce about recording Crispin’s voice over demos together and he goes on to share the story of how he landed his role in Overwatch. He talks about how revolutionary Overwatch is in breaking stereotypes and clichés through its uplifting message and the ways he identifies with Winston’s personality and ideology. He shares his approach to voice acting auditions, and why he finds the psychology of the character and aspects of his own personality that he can put into it. Crispin explains his coaching method that utilizes his extensive training and real-life industry experience to educate his students, and how active watching and listening are imperative to voice acting. He explains what inspired him to create his podcast, VoiceActingMastery.com, and closes with some misconceptions he finds people have about voice acting and why he believes he’s an effective coach.

Heather discusses the voiceover demo and gives advice for making the proper sales tool and also tells what a talent should expect and be prepared for when meeting with an agent. She explains the expectations that Atlas Talent has of their actors and speaks to the importance of having good communication between the agent and their talent. Heather answers some misconceptions talent may have about the role of an agent and shares her personal story of how she found her way from acting in Boston to working TV production in New York, to moving to Los Angeles. She talks about how she stays motivated and inspired as an agent and offers great advice to voice actors for having success in the voiceover industry.

Heather explains what a voice actor needs to bring to the table in today’s industry, from understanding your skill set to knowing the opportunities that are available where you live. She stresses the importance of learning how to network effectively and gives her opinion about how a voice actor should use social media to their benefit. Heather explains some of the reasons why voice actors don’t get signed with Atlas and shares how agency owners, Jonn Wasser and Lisa Marber-Rich and the entire team of agents work hard for their talent, coast to coast. She talks about some of the do’s and don’t’s for submitting to Atlas Talent for representation and answers what a talent should do if they don’t get a response or get “passed on” for representation by Atlas.
